CAT#: SDR-091
LABEL: Sunday Drive

Released at the end of 2022, “Folding” is the sophomore LP from Houston alternative-rock band, Trembler. With the help of producer, Corey Coffman (Gleemer) the band was able to reinvent their sound on “Folding”. While the band focused on indie/emo music on their debut, “Folding” finds Trembler vastly expanding their soundscape—leaning both heavy and soft in the realm of alternative rock.

There’s an introduction of many atmospheric layers and noisy guitars that pair perfectly with solemnly catchy vocal melodies and introspective lyrics from vocalist Luke Gonzales. Trembler is creating a unique sound in this genre in 2023—with songs that get stuck in your head and pass quickly, due to the bands’ attentive sequencing and sharp songwriting.

Money "Money"

12"EP - $17.25
STREET DATE: 3/24/23
CAT#: SDR071
LABEL: Sunday Drive

“Money” is the debut self-titled EP from Oklahmona alternative-rock band, Money. Coming from the Oklahoma DIY music scene—currently populated with diverse bands rich in punk/hardcore to shoegaze and alternative rock—Money delivers some of the heaviest straight-forward alternative rock music their town has to offer. Sharing members with the local OK band, Cursetheknife and inspired by late ‘90s bands like Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins and Far, Money’s songs are full of heavy bass, noisy guitars, and echoing vocals, where the band can easily fit on local shoegaze lineup, but slightly more heavy to fit on a punk/hardcore show. From the opener, “Trajector” to the closer, “Slower Hell”, Money does an excellent job in making these songs flow seamlessly while keeping the listener engaged and transfixed with sludgy guitars, clever interludes, and strong hooks on each song.

  1. Fuct

Anxious Arms "Crimes of Despair"

LP - $16.60 / CD - $7.00
STREET DATE: 2/17/23
CAT#: SDR084
LABEL: Sunday Drive

“Crimes of Despair” is the first LP from Sacramento metal/post-hardcore band, Anxious Arms. Over 5 years of being a band, releasing singles and EPs and touring, Anxious Arms has continuously honed in on what their sound is today. Beginning in the early days as an emo band and progressively introducing new sounds from metal and hardcore, the band organically evolved sonically.

Crimes of Despair does a great job displaying this. You can still hear bits of early Anxious Arms throughout the record, but sonically, there are many more layers and dynamics happening. This is quickly introduced on ‘Intro’, where a soundscape of Black Sabbath & Sleep-inspired guitars take over the song with lingering vocals, then loops into the title track—which explodes with heavy bass and shouting from vocalist, Kyle Bolla. Later tracks like ‘Foundation’ do a great job of switching the tempo at perfect points within the record–creating a more driving and urgent feeling.

Lyrically, Bolla is at his best. Emotions of loneliness, anger and doubt are poetically described in a doom-like world. There is an underlying through line of despair that tends to linger throughout the whole record. This theme, paired with the slow and heavy doom metal to post-hardcore dynamic works great. Anxious Arms are able to craft a concise and consistent LP, where a range of influences from Crowbar to Deftones and Cave In makes perfect sense.

TRACK LISTING:

  1. Intro
  2. Crimes of Despair
  3. Catastrophes
  4. Foundation
  5. Nailed to the Wheel
  6. Fall From Grace

Sparing "No Room Left To Grow"

12"EP - $15.30 / CD - $7.00
STREET DATE: 2/3/23
CAT#: SDR077
LABEL: Sunday Drive

Feeling stuck with little direction, and a weight of emotions encapsulates the new EP from Sparing, “No Room Left to Grow”. Following the 2021 EP, “Old Dreams”, songwriter Zach Godwin has re-focused Sparing to be a full solo project. Whereas “Old Dreams” combined 90’s alt-rock and pop punk, Sparing leans heavy on the early 00’s pop-punk/post-hardcore sound, taking influence from bands like Thursday, Allister, The Movielife, Senses Fail, etc.

Tracked over a few weekends in the spring of 2022 in North Carolina, Zach painstakingly performed nearly all instruments and vocals, with the help of Jonathan Owens (Dull Mourning) on drums and Brooke Nicole who is featured on the title track. “No Room Left to Grow” is full of guitar melodies, breakdowns, sing-along choruses and more, making this a perfect album to get stuck on repeat in the car all summer.

STREET DATE: 1/20/23
CAT#: SDR076
LABEL: Sunday Drive

On “A Wishful Thing”, Broken Head is joined by new team members: drummer Evan White and studio producer, Trevor Reilly. The two help to bring out even more rhythm and dynamic from Broken Head’s already infectious choruses and melodies. On “A Wishful Thing”, Broken Head continue to shine in their ’90s alternative-rock sonic influences from Catherine Wheel, Swervedriver, etc. Rob and Alessio’s dual vocals continue to harmonize through the tracks, backed by their well-studied guitar tones, creating the perfect rhythms to get stuck in your head.

Producer Trevor Reilly allows the band to perform their sound well, tracking a more pristine and less polished recording. And while only four tracks, “A Wishful Thing” comes in at nearly 20 minutes. Broken Head is confident and comfortable in these songs, and as a listener, these minutes easily pass by and instantly begin to repeat.

Consistently looking within, questioning, and finding solutions to become a better person is an overall theme Spark has established in their music. On their first LP, “Supernova”, vocalist, Andy Villhauer dials on these themes from song to song, expressing rage for the way things are and encouraging positivity and growth. There’s truly a “Supernova” of emotions heard throughout the LP, with the backing of decades of influences of hardcore—from the sounds of DC’s revolution summer to the straight edge revival of the late 90s–early 00s. Fabian, Yannick, Chris and Jonah are at their strongest here, creating dynamic, expressive and melodic hardcore.

With the help of producer David Deutsch, Colin Knight and Will Killingsworth wrapping up mixing and mastering respectively, Spark shines on their first LP, creating a concise, emotional, and modern hardcore LP.

Squint "Wash Away"

CASSETTE - $7.00
STREET DATE: 12/2/22
CAT#: SDR088
LABEL: Sunday Drive

Following their debut EP released earlier this spring, Squint is swiftly back with their follow-up, “Wash Away”. The two pair nicely together, where “Feel it” is much more driving and abrasive, “Wash Away” leans more into the poppier sound influenced by ‘90s DIY indie-rock from bands like Superchunk, Archers of Loaf, and Dinosaur Jr.

While “Wash Away” still does a great job of displaying Squint’s angsty, melodic hardcore heard on their debut, this batch of songs sound more upbeat with guitar melodies acting almost as backup vocals for Brennan to shout with. Again, Squint has carved their own path in this modern age of melodic hardcore with a unique rhythm to easily get stuck on repeat.

Anxious Arms / Dull Mourning "Split"

CASSETTE - $7.00
STREET DATE: 10/21/22
CAT#: SDR085
LABEL: Sunday Drive

Joining from opposite sides of the USA, California’s Anxious Arms and North Carolina’s Dull Mourning join together for a split EP on Sunday Drive Records. Anxious Arms’ “Wasted Days, Wasted Years” was recorded during the session for 2021’s single, “Faust”. While the previous single was much more straightforward fast and hard, “Wasted Days, Wasted Years” has some more breathing room with a mix of aggressiveness and melody—recalling some of their sounds heard on “Head Toward Heaven” and “Feeler”. On the flip side, Dull Mourning’s “Rejoice” is their hardest single to date. The track leans heavily on the post-hardcore sound established on Ugly Flame with more driving aggression. Both bands deliver some of their best songs to date and contrast perfectly on this split EP.

The Arrival Note "Vol. 2"

CASSETTE - $7.00
STREET DATE: 10/21/22
CAT#: SDR086
LABEL: Sunday Drive

As described in the title, “Vol. 2” is a continuation of The Arrival Note’s self-titled demo released in 2021. Shortly after the original EP was released, Joshua Howell and Kyle Weidner continued to write while playing some of the bands’ first shows. In mid-2022, The Arrival Note went back with studio producer, Ethan Murphy in Dade City, FL.

While “Vol. 2” pairs well with the demo, there is a clear distinction of where The Arrival Note is at today. The sound is much more dynamic—still inspired by ’90s emo, but also leaning more toward some of the anthemic sounds heard on early ’00s records like Elliott’s “False Cathedrals” or Sunny Day Real Estate’s “The Rising Tide”. There are quiet moments with acoustic guitars, followed by loud, distorted guitars and shouting from Joshua Howell—who drives more towards lyrics of love and hope. 2022 sees The Arrival Note at an inspiring growth, and now with a solid lineup moving forward, there is much excitement for what the band does next.

Pummel "Headcase"

CASSETTE - $7.00
STREET DATE: 7/29/22
CAT#: SDR083
LABEL: Sunday Drive

Boston hardcore (BHC) is a region commonly noted when reading or discussing hardcore, and with good reason. Important bands in the 80's like SSD, DYS, Slapshot, Jerry's Kids and more all made a huge impact on hardcore and the sound to come decades later. Pummel have this sound embedded in their DNA, and with the mix of the new wave of 00s BHC from bands like Mental, Stop and Think, etc. Pummel are currently carrying the torch for their hometown. Their 2021 self-released EP, "Next In Line" began to show a glimpse of Pummel's next evolution as a band. While maintaining groove, Pummel began to sprinkle in metallic leads, tempo switches and more. A year later, the band is back with the single, "Headcase"—their first release on Sunday Drive Records. "Headcase" further pushes the sound from their last release, overall making this a menacing single. From little moments like the leads in the beginning to the hi-hat break in the middle, Pummel is at their best, creating something fun, new and interesting.

All Under Heaven “Don't Suffer Alone / Alley Cat”

CASSETTE - $7.00
STREET DATE: 7/15/22
CAT#: SDR080
LABEL: Sunday Drive

A roaring, dreamy sound is probably not the first thought that would come to mind when thinking of music out of Freehold, New Jersey, but All Under Heaven delivered just this on their 2021 EP, "Collider"—an album that was on constant rotation throughout the year for many. A year later, All Under Heaven is back with their first follow-up EP, consisting of two single tracks, "Don't Suffer Alone" and "Ally Cat".

In the winter of 2022, the band returned to Pennsylvania-based producer, Wyatt Oberholzer to record. The two pick up from where "Collider" left off, this time with more up-front production and with All Under Heaven performing at their best, fresh off of playing many shows in the northeastern area. The band still maintains their signature sound of solemn & soft vocal harmonies, with an excellent backing of dynamic drums and loud, distorted guitars. While being a concise EP, the two songs will get stuck on repeat and paint a picture of the future All Under Heaven is heading in.

Anklebiter "Demo 2022"

CASSETTE - $7.00
STREET DATE: 7/15/22
CAT#: SDR081
LABEL: Sunday Drive

A straight-edge hardcore band from the northeast USA is fairly common, however, in 2022, Anklebiter differs from their contemporaries in 2022 with a refreshing, yet familiar sound. Referencing early-mid '00s hardcore from their region—particularly the sound of Lockin' Out bands like Mental and Righteous Jams, mixed with the modern sounds from Result of Choice and Krimewatch, Anklebiter plays classic loud & fast hardcore.

On their first demo, producer Will Hirst captures Anklebiter's raw and furious energy on every track. While the sound is fast and upfront, the band knows when to pull back to make a balanced, dynamic, and exciting sound. Rachael Braverman's rhythmic, shouting vocals perfectly pair with the band's aggressive, driving sound performed by members Nick Birtles (Pummel), Evan Stein (Broken Vow), and L St. Germain.

Leaving Time "II"

CASSETTE - $7.00
STREET DATE: 6/24/22
CAT#: SDR079
LABEL: Sunday Drive

For many years, the music from Florida has been known across America, thanks to the thriving hardcore scene throughout the state, plenty of bands and projects, and previous & contemporary labels like IOU Records, From Within Records + more who have supported and given the bands a platform. Leaving Time is a current band whose name seems to be a gem to locals and to others who have discovered their 2021 self-titled EP released on Tiger Records, a local record store in Jacksonville.

Formed in 2020 while members Joel Cedeno, Nick Dilts, Jarod Whalen, and Reed Cothren previously & simultaneously played in bands True Form, Method of Doubt, and more—Leaving Time sonically stands out from the aforementioned. Taking inspiration from the notable '90s alternative-rock and shoegaze sound, Leaving Time adds much of their own to the sound. Subtle nuances like the whirling guitar leads and hardcore-inspired drums give each song a driving punch, taking the singular "shoegaze" descriptor out of the picture. On EP II, the band again connected with Gainesville producer, John Howard to write some of their best songs to date. Pushing the sound heard on their S/T, EP II finds the band coming to form.

  • Featuring members of True Form, Method of Doubt

Feverchild "Witching Hour / You Know I Can't"

CASSETTE - $7.00
STREET DATE: 5/13/22
CAT#: SDR075
LABEL: Sunday Drive

Following their 2021 self-titled EP, Feverchild continued to write and have had the opportunity to play songs in front of a live audience for the first time—mostly amongst the Belgian hardcore scene. "Witching Hour" and "You Know I Can't" pick up where their previous EP left off—incorporating much of the '90s emo influences heard prior, but with more post-hardcore leanings. Heavier guitar riffs and palm muting recall the sound from heavier '90s emo bands like Memorial Day, early-Falling Forward, and Kill Holiday. Lyrically, Feverchild still delivers strongly and thoughtfully with a memorable bridge like, "So cure me—secure me". Feverchild continues to progress in the genre, with the help of producer, Gilles Demolder, to write their strongest songs yet. It's a preview of what's to come, as the band begins to write their follow-up album later in 2022.

Squint "Feel It"

CASSETTE - $7.00
STREET DATE: 4/29/22
CAT#: SDR078
LABEL: Sunday Drive

"Feel It" is the debut EP from St.Louis, MO melodic-hardcore band, Squint. Featuring various members from Missouri bands Time and Pressure, New Lives, Soul Craft and Choir Vandals, Squint has a nice palette of sounds ranging from hardcore to alternative/indie rock. Largely influenced by a shared liking of Rites of Spring and Turning Point, "Feel It" take the sound of melodic-leaning hardcore, but Squint is able to put their own spin on it with fuzzed-out guitars and big riffs—recalling tones heard from bands like Seaweed and Sugar. Most importantly, as the title suggests, "Feel It" loudly communicates a huge array of emotions. Themes of anger, presence, loving, depression, and more are delivered by vocalist and songwriter, Brennen Wilkinson. Each word is passionately shouted by Wilkinson, and with the backing of huge guitars and hard-hitting drums, all you want to do is shout-along, bang your head, and of course—feel it.

Still "Faint"

LP - $14.00
STREET DATE: 4/8/22
CAT #: SDR064
LABEL: Sunday Drive

"Faint" is the debut EP from St. Louis, Missouri shoegaze band, Still. The band was formed in 2020 by Michael Hoeltge, Ben Koeing, David Shanle (New Lives, Time and Pressure), and Chris Wright, with a goal to write something different from their previous bands, primarily consisting of indie, hardcore, and pop-punk music. Still is a drastic change from the aforementioned, incorporating classic elements of shoegaze, with a mix of slowcore.

"Faint" feels like a journey from start to finish—introduced with guitars fading in on "Spinner" and concluding with fuzzy guitars, melodies, and heavy-hitting drums on "Downward". Throughout all of the noise, however, there is still a sense of catchiness, which can be difficult to capture in the genre. Still pull off the sound extremely well, with the help of local St.Louis producer, Gabe Usery, and master engineer, Zac Montez (Cloakroom, Turnover). “What's left to feel with all the sounds, as it all falls down?”

Mad Honey "Promo '22"

CASSETTE - $6.00
STREET DATE: 3/25/22
CAT #: SDR074
LABEL: Sunday Drive

"Chasing, seeking, hiding, silhouetting lies" creates a hazy, dark, and yearning visual. It's the opening line from Oklahoma City's indie/dream-pop band, Mad Honey, and is the most accurate way to describe the band's sound. The band's earliest formation started in 2018 with members Tiff Sutcliffe and Branden Palesano writing music together. The band later came to fruition with members Lennon Bramlett, James Tunell and Austin Valdez joining the band and continued writing and releasing singles such as "Good Grief" and "I Won't Go Easy" most recently in 2021.

In 2022, the band has continued to evolve in their songwriting with more straight-forward indie-rock, but still stays true to their roots with a darker, dream-pop sound—mostly from the distinct voice of Tiff Sutcliffe, who arranges some of the catchiest melodies heard on their new promo tape, with singles, "Odds" and "Euphoria".

Influences from early ’90s dream-pop/shoegaze bands like Lush and My Bloody Valentine, with a mix of contemporaries like DIIV and Beach House can be heard on these new singles, especially from the whirling guitar leads and dual-vocal harmonies. The two tracks easily stay on an endless loop while we look forward to hearing more from what Mad Honey has in store in 2022.

  1. Odds
  2. Euphoria

  • Featuring members of Cursetheknife
