Life Abuse “Systematization”

STREET DATE: 10/4/24
CAT#: AL-055
LABEL: Armageddon Label

Life Abuse is a new band based primarily in Albany, NY. Its list of xmembers of could easily be described as a "super group". Boasting past members of Self Defense Family, The Oath, Male Patterns, Under Attack, Devoid of Faith, Libyans, End of A Year, and LIMPWRIST, just to name a few from the seemingly endless list. However, it really boiled down to Mark Telfian and Dan Barker wanting to reconnect and play music together again. They had last played together in 2004 when their band at the time DEATHSQUAD broke up.

DEATHSQUAD formed in 2001 and they released a 7" on Youth Attack Records in 2003 and a second 7" on Bonus Choke in 2004. They kicked around the idea of trying to do some type of project together since Telfian had gotten back into playing music in 2018 with Under Attack. Since Mark had moved to Richmond, VA the idea of doing a band from that distance seemed unfeasible.

They figured the closest they would come to playing together was having their bands Male Patterns and Under Attack do a split 7", which came out in June of 2022 on Shock to the System Records. In October of 2022 Under Attack broke up and Telfian was trying to figure out what to do and who to play with. Since he had started playing music again he always gravitated back to playing music more inline with DEATHSQUAD. He had written about a dozen songs that he felt were in that same style. After sending a few songs for Barker to check out they decided to start playing music again almost 20 years later.

As fate would have it, Barker had run into Sean Doody at a Male Patterns show. This was in fact the record release show for the Male Patterns/ Under Attack split. They had talked for a bit and gotten caught up. Doody had moved away from Albany for a few years and had stopped playing music for a while. Dan immediately suggested getting Sean as he too was very into playing that style of music and wasn't currently playing in a band. The final member was long time friend Nate Wilson. Wilson had played in various Albany bands with every other member of Life Abuse including DEATHSQUAD with Telfian and Barker. Their idea was simple, play Euro-style Crust in the vein of such epic bands like No Security, G-ANX, and ABC Diabolo while blending Telfian's Negative Approach influenced riffs and a hint of early Megadeth. Nate brought a metallic edge to everything with his lead work and solos. The end result was old friends making the most brutal music they could in what seems to be the most brutal times.

A new brutal hardcore band from the New York's Capital District featuring x members of Self Defense Family , The Oath , Malte Patterns, Under Attack, The End of A Year, Devoid of Faith, Libyans , and Limp Wrist just to name a few.

ALARM! "ALARM!"

ALARM! "ALARM!"

LP - $15.30
STREET DATE: 7/12/24
CAT#: AL-54
LABEL: Armageddon

ALARM! are a hardcore punk band from Stockholm, Sweden. After twenty-plus years of playing together in Victims, Andy, Jon and Gareth reunited in early 2023 with the ambition of making some new noise. Jon switched from guitar to bass and the trio wrote a bunch of songs. About a year later they were joined by Jon’s childhood friend, Henrik. This would be the first time the two had played together since their legendary hardcore band Outlast folded in the late 90’s.

Henrik’s vocals and Jon’s bass playing are the key ingredients in taking ALARM!’s sound away from these Swede’s well-known crust punk roots. The bass is both manic and melodic at the same time, pummeling the riffs behind the wall of guitar and drums. Henrik’s piercing vocals, raw yet steeped in emotion, scream of personal anguish and pissed off, political rage. ALARM! have endeavoured to evoke the classic Swedish sound whilst harking back to an ever-so-slight hint of melodic hardcore pre Y2K.

ALARM! have a 9 song twelve inch record already recorded and soon to be released by Armageddon Label, as well as an upcoming appearance on the second instalment of Malmö-based Quarantined Records “Greetings From Sweden” compilation (distributed it the USA by Armageddon Label). As a follow up to the debut album, a 7 inch is already in the pipeline. A slew of shows in Sweden throughout 2023 have seen ALARM! share stages with the likes of Chain Whip, Nukies and Sharp Tongues. Early 2024 marked their first trip abroad, to Spain, with Barcelona’s Enchastre. More shows are planned for 2024, both in Sweden and further afield.

"AALARM! comes from Stockholm. Even though this is Stockholmers ALARM!'s first release, the band consists of a bunch of extremely experienced guys who have a lot of history playing in hardcore bands. They describe themselves as the following "75% Victims, 50% Outlast, 125% Hardcore!". That sums it all up very well I think. When I say that Alarm! plays hardcore on a higher level, you won't be immediately surprised. The gas pedal is already pushed to the floor from the first moment you press play."

"It doesn't take long before ALARM! has me in its grip and they leave no prisoners. When the fourth track "Scare Game" comes on, I'm already on the floor knocked out. It's a real highlight and my favorite on the record. Only on track six, "Ancient Cycles" does the speed slow down and we're allowed to gasp for breath. What makes me happy about hardcore, punk and its related styles, is that when you listen to the music and read the lyrics, you get a little hope for humanity because there are actually more people out there who think there is a lot of madness in the world. Listening to ALARM! also gives me that feeling" - Anders Bergström/Heavyunderground.se

Since its formation, however, Bastard Noise has made releases with underground labels such as Three One G, Relapse Records, Gravity Records, Deep Six, Vermiform Records, Robotic Empire, among others.

During live performances, Wood often recruits other musicians to perform with him, the likes of which have included Merzbow, Justin Pearson, Keiji Haino and many other collaborators.

Since their formation in 1995, then under the moniker Wolfpack, WOLFBRIGADE have become one of the most enduring - and influential - forces in the worldwide hardcore-punk scene. And seven albums in and more than two decades touring worldwide under the WOLFBRIGADE banner, the "Lycanthro Punks" show no signs of slowing down.

G-Anx / Filthy Christians "Split"

7"EP - $7.00
STREET DATE: 5/13/22
CAT#: ARMAG035
LABEL: Armageddon Label

G-anx was from Jönköping, Sweden. Started already in 1982 but in 1984/1985 they developed into the first Swedish (proto-) grindcore band. In 1985 a demo was made and a tour to Yugoslavia. This split is their first release and contains 4 awesome songs in ultra-speed with slower parts. The line up was Patrik (Vox), Steve (guitar), Hedda (Bass) and Hoccy (drums). The band released 4 EP’s and an album was planned as well, but of some reason the master tape got erased. They stopped playing in 1992. There is a discography called "Flashbacks" which contains all their EP’s. G-ANX deliver five tracks of their powerful and aggressive hardcore, very fast, fierce, angry and raw..

Filthy Christians from Falun, Sweden, started out as a hardcore band but wanted to play faster. The vocalist Per Thunell was also behind the microphone of Protest Bengt together with Åke from Mob 47. They released the unbelievable 32 song EP with Protes Bengt. Filthy Christians were influenced by bands like Heresy and Napalm Death which you clearly can hear on this split EP. Filthy Christians tracks come from their second demo tape: imagine the crust brutality of Bombanfall enriched with some grindcore hints that pop up here and there. There are brutal vocals, rough guitars, beat changes with slower parts followed by fast outbreaks, there is a grindcore feeling but this is not the grindcore as we know it nowadays, six tracks are delivered and some of them last less than a minute.

TRACK LISTING:

  1. True Story - G-Anx
  2. Chicken Fuck - G-Anx
  3. Mitt Liv - G-Anx
  4. Enkelbiljetten - G-Anx
  5. No Religion Can Save Us From Hell - G-Anx
  6. Satanist - Filthy Christians
