Fange "Perdition"

LP - $17.50 / CD - $8.00
STREET DATE: 3/1/24
CAT#: THRT091
LABEL: Throatruiner

France's FANGE has navigated through their most active year yet defending "Privation", engaging in two European tours and making multiple appearances at festivals throughout 2023. Far from dampening their creative fire, the band was in parallel writing "Perdition" -- six new tracks and a creeping cover of Bernard Lavilliers. The entire recording and production process was executed by the band, with mixing and mastering duties once again handled by Cyrille Gachet and Alan Douches.

Conceived as a spiritual successor to 2020's machine-driven "Poigne", "Perdition" expands upon the concept of a less riff-focused release while also embracing the cleaner, more desolate atmosphere explored on "Privation". Built and refined during the summer of 2023 upon foundations made of mutilated death industrial loops and grievous melodic guitars, the album serves as a testament to the band's distinctive identity, placing emphasis on the gloom and the martial -- spleen and discipline.

Fange "Privation"

LP - $17.50
STREET DATE: 4/7/23
CAT#: THRT090
LABEL: Throatruiner

Born out of shared obsessions for stark aesthetics, bold moves and uncomfortable sounds, FANGE's music never stopped evolving since their inception in 2013, transfiguring their sludge roots with death metal then industrial influences. A singularity affirmed with an unexpected, brutal switch to drum machines on late 2019. If the first half of the pandemic saw the breton band exploring their new-found sound over a slab of savage releases ("Pudeur", "Poigne" and "Pantocrator"), the second half was willingly spent off-grid, fully dedicated to their next move.

The result appears under the form of "Privation", their fourth full-length. Clocking in at 40 minutes and seven tracks, the now-quartet raises the bar at every single level to serve their vision : writing more memorable, emotionally-charged tracks without sacrificing the maniacal abrasion of their previous material. This album appears as FANGE's most expressive work, not afraid to balance their trademark wall of noise with more tempered elements, with clean guitars channelling the bleakness of post-punk and cold wave. Pursuing that same intent, vocals appears more versatile and nuanced than ever, while the striking work on sound design and production unveils new details with every listen. "Privation" is nothing but a tour-de-force in a now rock-solid discography, from a band that ignores how to play it safe, nor how to fulfill anything else than their own desires.

  1. À La Racine
  2. Sang-Vinaigre

Death Engine "Ocean"

LP - $17.50 / CD - $8.75
STREET DATE: 3/17/23
CAT#: THRT088
LABEL: Throatruiner

Formed in Lorient in 2012, DEATH ENGINE have quickly established themselves as a strong underdog of the french scene, affirming their identity from their very first EP "Amen" : a cold, nervous sound reminiscent of the best of noise rock and early post metal scenes, a clean-cut approach to songwriting and visuals, and impulsive live shows played with constant tension. Two albums followed (2015's "Mud" and 2018's "Place Noire") and allowed the band to play all across western Europe, from dive bars to Hellfest.

After a short break and two years of work, the band returns with their new album "Ocean" and a line-up entirely revamped around guitarist / vocalist Mikaël Le Diraison. More personal and introspective, these 40 minutes showcase the band's mastery of their sound, allowing more space to heaviness while opening their sound to new horizons, colder and more melodic.

TRACK LISTING:

  1. Hyperion
  2. Leaden Silence
  3. Pulled Down
  4. Lack
  5. Mess
  6. Dying Alone
  7. Empire

MARKETING POINTS:

  • Drums played and recorded by Joris Saïdani (Birds In Row)
  • Mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (Converge, Mastodon, The Dillinger Escape Plan)

Lisieux "Abide!"

LP - $17.50 / CD - $8.75
STREET DATE: 2/24/23
CAT#: THRT089
LABEL: Throatruiner

Toulouse, France's LISIEUX plays an unique brand of electronic dark folk - contemplative and haunting, drawing its roots from the ethereal and proto-goth scenes of the 80's (Dead Can Dance, Death In June, Cocteau Twins…) and nourished by both liturgical & medieval imaginaries.

Duo then four-piece, the band's approach evolved since their 2014 beginnings, with amplified acoustic compositions interplaying with synth-arranged ambient / drone pieces. Cindy's distinctive vocals remaining the guiding thread, weaving a dense web between religious chants, dream pop and neo-medieval aesthetics.

After a first album ("Psalms Of Dereliction") released by Steelwork Maschine in 2019, their second full-length "Abide!" marks the band's debut collaboration with Throatruiner Records, mastered by Michael Lawrence (Current 93, Ulver, Nature And Organisation…).
