Juan Cordero "Songs About Ghosts"

LP - $17.25
STREET DATE: 12/1/23
CAT#: SDR-101
LABEL: Sunday Drive

Wandering, distance and sleeplessness creep through each song on the debut LP, "Songs About Ghosts" from Texas, indie-rock artist, Juan Cordero. Born over the years from songwriter, Jonathan Perez (Trauma Ray) as an output of solo expression, Juan Cordero succeeds in this; while drenched in fuzzy guitars and noisy melodies. With the help of friends & bandmates, Mario Cernadas and Uriel Avilia, with mixing/master engineer, Corey Coffman, "Songs About Ghosts" is crafted exactly as envisioned from Perez. Welding influences from Dinosaur Jr to Red House Painters and Duster, Juan Cordero creates these haunting, yet beautiful songs that manage to get stuck in your head from their catchy melodies and mysterious-like lyrics. The words, "I'll come around--I'll come around for you" are the last sung on "Songs About Ghosts"; perfectly ending and summarize the feeling of the record as a whole.

Still "Doomed"

12"EP - Black
STREET DATE: 11/24/23
CAT#: SDR-109
LABEL: Sunday Drive

While still retaining the heaviness and waves of noise heard on their debut, "Faint", the St. Louis shoegaze band, Still returns on "Doomed" with a focus on melody--constantly drifting through the guitars and vocals. Reunited with longtime producer, Gabe Usery and mastered again with Zac Montez, they have clearly all approached "Doomed" a little differently. Vocals are more upfront, paired with the leading guitars and a background of fuzzy bass and crashing drums. Still seemed to have fully realized in these songs--dealing with dullness and yearning, yet delivered with abrasiveness and whispering vocals.

Strange Joy "Power Pop"

7"EP - $7.50
STREET DATE: 11/17/23
CAT#: SDR-103
LABEL: Sunday Drive

Right when Strange Joy came out of the gates in Houston in 2021, it was obvious there was something unique and special about the band. A raw energy was always present at their live shows, always paired with a sense of melody, and sticking out from the lineup--in the best way possible. Over the past year, with continuous shows and newcomers, Strange Joy have naturally evolved and adapted into what we hear today. Their new record, Power Pop is their strongest display yet; showing a much more straight-forward, fast and angry hardcore sound. Not to say the band has abandoned their melody, but have incorporated it into these songs with a new approach. Ringing guitar strings are heard throughout the tracks, while other guitars have a fuzzy and driving sound, along with Castillo's vocal patterns that never fail to make Strange Joy's songs as catchy as they are. Power Pop is titled appropriately--this is Strange Joy at their most powerful sounding yet.

  3. Brickwork
  4. Fiending (Blank Out)

MARKETING POINTS:

  • East coast tour planned for the winter

Dan Darrah & The Rain "Rivers Bridges Trains"

LP - $17.25
STREET DATE: 11/17/23
CAT#: SDR-107
LABEL: Sunday Drive

Dan Darrah is a twenty-something Toronto-based songwriter and guitar player whose compositions embed themselves in listeners' memories via off-kilter Beatles-esque melodicism and impressionistic lyrics that come by their romanticism obliquely, ironically, almost aphoristically. Whereas Darrah has for years been recording songs off the cuff by himself in his bedroom, his new album, Rivers Bridges Trains, was recorded in a proper studio, over several months, with the help of players and singers he's known and collaborated with since his adolescence on Greater Toronto's eastern outskirts. The album, which collates and repurposes many of those old bedroom songs, is protean and rangy in the tradition of songcraft-oriented acts like Teenage Fanclub, Mojave 3, and Jets to Brazil. British Invasion harmony melds with country-rock languor as a somewhat bemused kitchen-sink realism emerges out of a swirl of half-recovered memories.

TRACK LISTING:

  1. Charade

Feverchild "Altering a Memory"

Feverchild "Altering a Memory"

LP - $16.60
STREET DATE: 11/3/23
CAT#: SDR104
LABEL: Sunday Drive

Feverchild seemed to have mastered their sound of late 90's post-hardcore/emo on their latest and most thorough release yet, "Altering a Memory". Following a self-titled EP and two-song single (the latter appearing on this album) in addition to their first tour, the band is at their strongest yet. "Altering a Memory" is primarily driven by melody--something the band has always incorporated, but now more attentive to. The intro track and "Eva" show the band stripping away some of the abrasiveness of their sound, and pull back to incorporate more quiet and atmospheric elements; ultimately creating a more diverse album where both the quiet and louder moments are more noticeable. "Altering a Memory" may be a stepping stone--not just for Feverchild--but perhaps for a new wave of emo to come.

In their first promo release on Sunday Drive Records, these three tracks offer an exciting mix of alternative music and hints of emo and power-pop--melding the Teenage Fanclub-like pop melody with the distortion heard from Jimmy Eat World guitars. Florida emo/indie rock and Atlanta hardcore merge on this three-way split from Painful Choice, Sugar Coat, and The Arrival Note. Painful Choice expands further into the rev-summer sound heard in their demo; it is now much more honed in with the same passion and melody. Sugar Coat, a new Florida band, adds a jangly, indie-rock sound to the mix, with the Built to Spill/Pavement melodic influence. Finally, The Arrival Note closes out the split with their best songs yet. Over the years, the band has taken the late 90's emo sound and modernized it to be their own. While the constant struggle exists in these hardcore songs, Strange Joy do not stray away from the sense of love and hope--" under all the trees and my heart's in tune". Mad Honey are a dream-pop band from Oklahoma City, OK.

"Satellite Aphrodite" is the debut album from Mad Honey. The exciting first chapter of a band destined to be part of the modern indie-rock lexicon for years to come.

As opener "Tuff's Last Stand" emerges, we are transported into Mad Honey's lush world of musical melancholy. This leads to the hazy and hook laden "Heavier Still", "Fold", and "Larkspur". Unforgettable songs that showcase a sophistication deep within Mad Honey's multi-layered approach. At the midpoint where many albums meander, "Satellite Aphrodite" continues to ascend. "Eileen", "E.T.Y.N", "R U Feeling It", and "Psycho" all shimmer and sway with punk heart and pop sensibility unlike anything else out there today. The acoustic heavy "Kamakura" then playfully brings us to "Concentration" and poignant title track. Two infectious songs that show Mad Honey discovering their own youthful creative magic in real time.

7"EP - $7.00
STREET DATE: 8/4/23
CAT#: SDR-090
LABEL: Sunday Drive

Fast, loud hardcore will never get old. "To Live and Withstand" clearly showcases this, where the majority of each song on the seven-song EP is just short of a minute and a half, yet packed with so much energy, emotion, and rhythm.

Anklebiter came right out of the gates in 2022 with their explosive demo. On their EP, they've only evolved what was heard prior. While still straightforward hardcore songs, Anklebiter's songwriting is stronger and more confident than ever. "I Am…" and "Pearl" show the band easily playing with tempo and creating a powerful dynamic that's tough not to dance to. Guitar solos and hooky bass lines are sprinkled throughout, adding more layers to the band's furious sound.

"To Live and Withstand" is full of rageful recollections of life, detailed with harsh imagery and expressed with bursts of spite. Anklebiter continues to resist, calloused, growing and withstanding.

STREET DATE: 6/30/23
CAT#: SDR-087

In 2017, the two-song EP, “Into You” quietly introduced Glare to the world. The EP was recorded by Texas producer, Phillip Odom and independently released as a DIY demo on Bandcamp. Then about a year later, the band joined Sunday Drive Records to put out a new two-song EP, “Void in Blue” on cassette tape.

Since then, the songs have only seen small cassette tape releases, and over time, the songs grew to be staples in Glare’s catalog. To more properly catalog and archive these releases, Glare, and SDR went back to Phillip Odom to remaster all of the songs, and prep them for the first vinyl release.

“Into You / Void In Blue” marks an important milestone in the band’s career, as Glare continues to grow with a new LP arising in 2023.
